Lesson 8 of 8
Building a Trading Plan You Will Actually Follow
Building a trading plan you will actually follow
Everything in this course is a piece. This lesson is about putting the pieces into one document you actually read before you trade, because the version of you sitting calmly right now makes better rules than the version of you watching a losing position in real time.
What belongs in it
A working plan does not need to be long, but it should answer these in advance, not while a trade is open:
- Which instruments you trade, and why you understand them (Lesson 1).
- Your risk per trade, as a fixed rule (Lesson 4) — for example "I risk no more than X% of my account balance on any single position," with X decided when you are not in a trade.
- Where your stop loss goes, decided by your analysis, not by how much you are comfortable losing (Lesson 5) — those are two different questions, and mixing them up is how stops get moved further away mid-trade.
- What "wrong" looks like, defined before you enter — the specific chart condition that means your idea has failed, separate from the stop loss itself.
- What you will not do — a genuine plan includes explicit refusals: no trading a size that was not calculated with the Lesson 4 formula, no removing a stop loss once it is set, no trading after a string of losses without a break.
Why the discipline is the hard part
Every number in this course — pip value, margin, position size, risk — is simple arithmetic once you know the formula. None of it is difficult. What is difficult is following your own written rules on the one trade where you are certain you are right, which is exactly the trade where a plan matters most. A plan you wrote and do not follow protects you no better than no plan at all.
On the platform
This lesson's task asks you to close a demo position while it is in profit — deliberately, according to a target set in advance, rather than watching a gain shrink back to nothing because there was no plan for when to take it.
This is the end of Forex Foundations. It does not make you ready to risk real money — no eight-lesson course does that for anyone. It gives you the mechanics so that whatever you decide to do next, you are deciding with the arithmetic in hand rather than guessing at it.
Practice task
Close a position while it is in profit.
- Minimum size: 0.01 lots
This lesson is completed by doing, not by clicking — the platform checks your own trading account for real evidence.
